Wajun Kaikan stands directly in front of the Chion-in Sanmon, Japan's largest temple gate and a designated National Treasure. Guests can step out the door and into the temple precinct in seconds.
Chion-in is the head temple of the Jodo-shu Pure Land school, founded in 1234 in honor of Honen (1133–1212). Wajun Kaikan is its official lodging — a way to experience overnight at the very source of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism.
